Season Icon

Winter (Dec-Feb) in Nepal: clear mountain views, fewer crowds, sunny days above 2,000 m. Temps range -30°C (Everest BC) to 22°C (Kathmandu). Ideal for trekking.

Season Date: December to February

Winter season – December to February is generally the coldest month, with temperatures ranging from 0 to 22 degrees in Kathmandu to – 17 to -30 degrees at Everest Base Camp, with a short daylight period. Above 2000 metres, the day remains sunny, and the night sky remains crystal clear, enabling one to count stars. The country's southern belt, known as the Terai, and the deep valley remain shrouded in a misty cloud until midday. From the end of January, frequent snowfall can be expected in the hilly regions above 3,000 metres and deep mountain valleys. It is still an ideal time to visit Nepal because the mountain scenery is wider. Famous destinations such as Everest and Annapurna have fewer tourists, and the temperature is still much more favourable than in many Western countries. The temperature remains -30 (Everest BC) to 0 to 16 degrees (Kathmandu).
