This 17-day Nepal and Tibet Tour is a diverse expedition. It spans the vibrant valleys of Kathmandu and Pokhara, the lowland wilderness of Chitwan National Park in Nepal, and the serene heights of the Tibetan Plateau and Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side.
Your Nepal and Tibet tour begins in Kathmandu, a city where ancient traditions and modern life converge. Here, you can immerse yourself in its spiritual heart by visiting the Swayambhunath Stupa and the historic palaces of Durbar Square. As a result, you will discover a rich cultural and historical heritage unique to Nepal and Tibet.
The journey then transitions from culture to wilderness as you travel to Chitwan National Park. The park was established in 1973 and received UNESCO World Heritage recognition in 1984.
Here, the air grows warm and humid, signalling your arrival in a different Nepal. An elephant-back safari takes you through tall grasslands. During the safari, you may spot a one-horned rhinoceros or an elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.
In addition, you can also enjoy a guided nature walk, a jeep safari, and a serene canoe trip on the Rapti River. Together, these activities offer a complete perspective of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
From the lowland jungle of Chitwan, you ascend to the tranquil lakeside city of Pokhara, set in the shadow of the Annapurna range.
A sunrise pilgrimage to the natural viewpoint of Sarangkot offers an incredible Himalayan spectacle. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate the sky-piercing snow-capped peaks, the landscape transforms dramatically.
The journey then transforms dramatically as your Nepal and Tibet tour crosses into Tibet via Kyirong. This crossing feels like a step into a different world.
According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Kyirong Valley is one of the Beyul, or the “Last Secret Places in Tibet.”
In the Himalayan tradition, the concept of “hidden valleys” is deeply spiritual. Known as Beyul in Tibetan Buddhism, these are not just specific geographic locations. Rather, they are 108 sacred refuges believed to have been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava over a thousand years ago.
People consider them sanctuaries for spiritual practice and physical shelter in times of trouble. They also believe these valleys are realms where the physical and spiritual worlds overlap.
After crossing into Tibet, you drive through vast plateaus and conquer high mountain passes, such as Gungthang La at 5,200 meters. Eventually, you ascend to Everest Base Camp.
The pilgrimage to Everest Base Camp is one of the epic highlights of this Nepal and Tibet tour. It is challenging, yet deeply spiritual. Facing the sheer North Face of the world’s highest peak is a humbling and soul-stirring experience.
The journey partly culminates in Lhasa, the spiritual and geographical heart of Tibet.
In Lhasa, you will admire the Potala Palace. You will also visit the most sacred Jokhang Temple and witness the lively philosophical debates at Sera Monastery.
This Nepal and Tibet tour itinerary promises a deep exploration of two unique lands. It blends cultural vibrancy, wildlife adventures, and serene mountain beauty, creating an enlightening journey.
