I had always thought that trekking in Nepal required a looong time and that it had to be done in either spring or autumn. That was until a friend told me that it was also possible to do it in winter, and that you can reach places like the Everest Base Camp in just 10–15 days. So, during the 2019 Christmas holidays, my husband and I went to fulfill our dream with Annapurna Treks & Expeditions. With great patience, they organized the Kalo Patthar trek for us, including a few days of sightseeing in Kathmandu and the surrounding areas, so it would fit perfectly into the 12 days we had in the country. The entire team, including our guide and porter, made the experience amazing: the trip of a lifetime!😍😍
We loved it so much that we returned for Christmas 2024, this time to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek in 14 days; and for Christmas 2025, we completed the Gokyo Valley trek in 12 days. We always go with Annapurna Treks & Expeditions because they make us feel so comfortable—partly because both the office staff and their guides speak Spanish.
We recommend traveling to Nepal in winter 100%. Although temperatures can be quite cold from sunset until early morning, the days are usually sunny with clear blue skies and spectacular views, often better than in high season! Oh! And no crowds!!! You just need to make sure you bring good warm gear and enjoy!
