Panauti town

The medieval town of Panauti situates 28-kilometres east of Kathmandu valley. This medieval city captures the urban design, elegant architecture, and refined culture of a Nepalese village of the 12th century. The town has numerous traditional patis, the open-air resting houses. The temples rise along the banks of rivers giving an especial delight to our eyes. One of the most important religious events is the Makar Mela, which takes place once in every twelve years, in honour of Lord Shiva, while thousands of pilgrim’s flocks. The temple of Indreswor Mahadev, the protector of the inhabitants of Panauti, lies in the centre of the town.
