Gorkha is located 130-kilometres northwest of Kathmandu and Gorkha is the administrative headquarters of its same name district. Gorkha is the founding domain of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal and the origin of the Shah dynasty. Gorkha Durbar, the palace of Gorkha, is the place from where the unification of forty-six kingdoms begun, from 15-18th centuries, when there were two confederations of domains, 24 to the west and 22 to the east.
The Palace of Gorkha lies in a unique and spectacular hilltop setting, proving beautiful views of the majestic summits of the Himalaya. The medieval Royal palace is in preservation in its origin. Other monuments here include the cave of Gorakhnath, Kalika temple, and other monuments.
